How large of a bush hog on a D17

How large of a Brushhog/rotary mower can a guy put on behind a D17? I'm just planning on mowing the waterways on the fields and around ponds with it. TIA.

If it's not rear axle high tough stuff, I'd think a 7' would be about right. Only problem might be weight if you buy a solid built one. May need some weight on the nose to keep the front down for steering.

D-17 is around a 52HP tractor so a 7 footer is about right in all but the thickest of stuff. I use a 5 footer behind the D-17 I have and it plays with it

A 6 foot will be the best buy as the price jump is considerable from 6 to 7 foot, mainly because the 7 footer isn't that popular. The 7 ft is just too long and scalps easier in my opinion. The only advantage would be that you could set the rear wheels out a little further for stability if the pond banks are steep.
