Gleaner K Finger Guides

Hello,

Does anyone know how many fingers there are on a Gleaner K, corn & soybean special, with a 10' header? I need all the guides, for the header and the machine.

Secondly, I have heard that some don't even use them...Are they truly needed?

If you will be running corn through your machine, you will need the metal finger guides for the feeder beater as I have been told the plastic one's don't hold up very well. The plastic one's will work fine for the header. Fingers and guides I believe are still available through AGCO. Might find them cheaper through TISCO or A&E. Google them and you will probably find several sources. I also believe that the finger and guide sizes are different between header and feeder beater. You will have to count the openings on feeder beater and header to know how many you need as I don't have my book in the house. You may not need the fingers on header but will definitly need them on feeder beater.Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply!

This machine is going to be doing mostly wheat, and some beans. Don't have a corn head, and will probably never buy one. I will hire any corn done until someday, when I have an F2-F3 or L2-L3.

With that said, what do you think? I really wish I could get by without putting any on, as the current screws look like they will be a bear to get out.

Plastic guides were standard, the Corn Special had the cast ones 'cuz they are more durable. You mention screws----are yours roundheads? Heat them if necessary to remove, then replace with the hex headed screws.

Don"t ever run with a missing finger guide on either the header auger or the feeder beater unless you like to repair 3 inch long holes in them. Also the fingers in the auger are smaller diameter than those in the feeder beater. Joe

If the fingers are still in, and the guides are worn out, the fingers will run inside the tube, and crease the tube from the inside, eventually splitting the tube....ie, header auger. you don't want to know what that costs to replace! Years ago, it was over 3 grand from the dealer. dealer had rebuilt for half. I took mine to Howard, SD, got it rebuilt with a heavier center for $750.....same place my dealer had his rebuilt.
