J190

I have a 190 that will go into gear at times and then after a few times shifting will not go in at all. When that happens I shut the tractor off and then I can put it back into gear. But when I restart it with it in gear and the clutch pushed in it will still creep forward. I move my power director from hi to low when it does this and I hear a grind noise and after a while it will all work again like it should. What is my problem???

How much free play in your clutch? Could be just needs clutch adjusted? Some times the clutch disk won't slide on the shaft if the unit has been sitting a long time?

Mine did the same and after adjusting it all the way up, she will have to be split to replace the original clutch assy. in my 1970 SIII. I have seen a post on the A-C site where a very well versed fella mentioned one or more of the clutch rivets had come out, getting stuck in the clutch at times and allowing temp. use.
