D17 losing hyd oil

There is a hyd hose inside the rear end, feeding the internal ram. It is leaking into the differential.

It could be leaking into the power director.
I had that happen to my D15. I pumped it back into the hydraulic compartment and have never had the problem reoccur. Check your fluid level in the PD and the Diff, and you'll find your lost fluid

Apparently, the most common loss of oil from the hydraulics is into the differential because of a bad hose or leaking cylinder.
However, I am having the same problem you describe and it is apparently due to a bad seal between the 2 compartments. My problem is most noticeable when I use the tractor in the woods where I have very steep log roads. I assume that when going down steep grades the oil migrates from the hydraulics compartment to the PD compartment much more readily.
Mine is a Series II and I was told that later series tractors do not have that seal and the oil flows freely between the two compartments.
My experience is that the hydraulics compartment will empty into the PD compartment to the point of causing it to overflow.
I have to drain from it and refill the other periodically which is a PITA but much less so than splitting the tractor.

Thanx for the help. Looked at AGCO parts book a little but having server trouble. Doesn"t seem to have extra fluid in differential. Seems power director is overfull.

On the series IV when they took the old piston pump out of the belly and put a gear pump on the belt pulley drive, if I remember right they did away with the hyd. fill/dipstick.
So then maybe the oil level in the old hyd. compartment doesn't have to be as high.
I was going to suggest just letting it find its own level. But if the power director over flows, then that's a bummer! I didn't realize the hyd. pump reservoir was that much higher than the PD.
How about running an overflow line from the PD fill back into the hyd. fill?
