I have a another wd that was on gas, but engine is stuck, but in overall better condition than the propane. I want to change the engines. Did Allis have a carb that would run gas and propane? I would like to keep the gas tank in present location and put the propane tank out front. [Reply]   [No Email]

From what I have learned and my literature, the WD never came from the factory as a dual fuel, but you could get a kit and retrofit it. The 45 could be ordered as a dual fuel from the factory. Both use the same model carbretor, but AC listed different part numbers so there must have been some internal difference. I have a couple extra carburetors and regulators for these tractors, but I don"t part with them until I get my WD and WD45 dual fuel tractors all rebuilt and running.   [Reply]  [No Email]
smonell 11-02-2012 20:41:07 173.184.54.200 Report to Moderator	Re: Propane carb in reply to Bruce Bushnell, 11-01-2012 18:59:13   Original factory dual fuel is an Ensign, an aftermarket propane adapter choice of the time was to drill and tap a 3/8" PT hole in the bottom of a Marvel Schebler carb and screw the propane injector into it which was attached to a regulator, filter, and front mount tank. The tank was similar, but not the same as the factory dual fuel tank. You could run on gasoline or propane by shutting off supply. I have both if you want photos.   [Reply]  [No Email]

However, the WD/WD45 parts book lists 70226076 as the Carburetor, combination (ensign no 2554) as for the WD, and 70226714 as the Carburetor, combination (Ensign no. 3060) See link. Now, from what I"ve seen, to find either of the ensign cabs listed, you will likely need to part with a large part of your wallet. And even if you do manage to find one, no one on this form seams to know what to do if you need to rebuild it. Search the archives of the allis board here for Ensign MG1 and you will find some about the Ensign carb we have with a WD45. I didn"t re read what is posted there, but if the LP carb you have is stamped MG1 where it bolts to the manifold, it is the same LP carb as used on the D series AC"s. Hope that helps you some. The copper tube coming off the carburetor top supplies vacuum to the fuel valve which shuts off fuel when engine is stopped. You should have to momentarily hold a bleeder valve open to provide fuel to start the engine.   [Reply]  [No Email]

On the ensign MG1 carb we have, the model is stamped on the face so that it can only be found by separating the carb from the manifold. By looks, I'd guess your carb is also an MG1, or very similar ensign model.   [Reply]  [No Email]

Propane engines usually have a little more compression than Gas, but it will run fine.. I do not think AC ever considered "Dual-Fuel" use, back in those days.. Ron   [Reply]  [No Email]
