Head Gasket

Replace the radiator hoses while it is apart..!!

Pretty straight forward..
about the only problem I have had is getting the plate between the 2 rear head bolts to seal..

Use some sealer on the Push-rod side of the head gasket..they seem to seep on that side for a while if you don't..
Might be a good idea to knock a freeze plug of two out and Flush the water jacket out while you can.

Ron..

When installing the Int/Exh manifold, I rub Hi-Temp Silicone into the white rings, slip them on the manifold runners, stick the metal cups on them, then slip the manifold in place..keeps everything together better..!!
I think it makes the gaskets last longer too..
Use "Never-Seize" on the Manifold nuts..
I like to add a Hardened Washer under each nut..
Might as well check or replace the thermostat while you have it apart..

Ron..

NO, you do NOT need to pull the engine for a Head Gasket...
You WILL need to remove the top sheet metal "Hood"..
That comes off easy, with a few screws up near the radiator and the "Screw-clamp" around the gas tank..
Lift off the air inlet cover and the hood will lift off..
After that, it is a straight-forward head Gasket change..
If you ever want a new muffler, remember, ONLY a "Nelson" Muffler sounds "Correct"..

Might want to replace the core plugs in the top of the head while you have it apart. They have a tendency to rust thru from the inside and let coolant leak out into your oil sump :(
