Looking at a series 2 d 15 with loader. Owner says it locked up while running. What are some probbale causes and what would it be worth?

Locked up when running a good share of the time means lack of engine oil and if that is the case then it at best is a parts tractor because your looking at $1500 plus to rebuild the engine.

A series II D15 ???? That is still worth a pretty penny even with the motor locked up...... I had an odl- old- old B that broke a lower radiator hose and lost water. Motor locked up while running. I think the rings probably stuck in the bore. About to find out this winter. Loss of oil is also a good bet. Sometimes you can do a decent motor job for bearings, rings, and gaskets. Probably hone the bore and reuse pistons. Crank journals are the only unknown.

(reply to post at 14:58:52 10/26/12) He asking 1500 for it and it has a trip bucket loader,a 2 bottom plow and a disk. Havn't been to look at it yet. Will any engines from more common models fit if the block is damaged? I figure I can rebuild for $1000 to $1200.

You could use the 149 or the 160 inch motor in the D14 or D15. Motors from the D12 would be a little small i think (138).

If the tractor is in good shape and you buy it for $1000 and put
$1500 into repairs, you will have a nice tractor for $2500. Most
used ones I've seen run a minimum of $4000 if they are in OK
condition.

My H3 crawler (D15 motor) locked up. Still had oil and oil pressure when it died. Tore it down to find the cam shaft broken in half which broke two rods....
