WD brakes

I have to put new brakes on an Allis Chalmers WD. How does the bottom pin come out?

pound a little, then cut. Pound a little then cut again, etc. etc. That is how I did it.

I sprayed with a penetrant and tapped on it. Did
this time after time and then some more over probably a month.Then took
some vise grips and pulled them out.
Just a note of encouragement. Maybe you will
be lucky also.

When I did mine, I broke the retaining head off the pin then drilled and tapped it. Then used a 1/2x6 bolt and a 3/4 drive deep socket and washers and pulled it out. Used a new pin with neversieze on it when putting them back together.

Usually with much difficulty. Use a strap iron- drill 3/4 hole near one end. Weld it to the pin. Apply candle wax as it cools. use the strap iron as a handle to twist the handle, and help it with a hammer.

I heard nothing but horror stories about these brakes and was preparing myself for the worst on our 1950 wd. To my great pleasure, I removed the retainer and pulled the pin out with my fingers on both sides!!! So much for keeping a tractor stored inside. I aint poking fun, I know many a tractor that was being restored or used that has sat outside. I just got lucky and they say you always remember your first. Ryan
