I installed a 1950 wd engine into a 1939 wc body and got it running today . It runs perfect with a good bark but I was manually using the carb thottle while the gov was hocked up . Now it won't seem to run on it's own . Could I have damaged the internal gov. parts ?

I can't imagine you damaged them, it sounds more like they already didn't work.

I seem to recall that you could manually pull the governor open anyway?

Not as gov problem. Do the normal trouble shooting and check for a blue/white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap and then check fuel flow by pulling the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb. All you did by working the throttle by way of the gov rad was in fact putting a bigger stronger spring on the gov rod and that spring was your arm
