General Carburetor Rebuild Question - Needle Valve

Hi folks,

I'm rebuilding the carburetor to my 1952 Allis Chalmers WD. I'm reassembling the carburetor, and need some advice or direction. When I reinstall the needle valve, I noted that my rebuild kit came with a little wire assembly that looks like it goes around one end of the needle valve and the wire ends install on the float. Is this correct. How should you install this little wire assembly? Or do you need it at all. It doesn't show in the A/C parts book. The picture shows the little wire assembly on the right side. Thanks in advance!!

The needle valve has a new style neoprene tip and the spring is used to release the needle so it does not stick. The older style needle valves did not have the neoprene tip and did not need the spring
 
Yep the spring is used to keep the needle from sticking in the seat so you get a + opening when the float drops. Do you self a favor and drop the need in the seat and tap on it with a small screw driver handle before putting the carb together that will put a set on the tip so it will seal better

Here's another tip. Use some aerosol carb cleaner to thoroughly clean both the needle and the seat, blow them dry, and then spray some silicon lubricant on the needle and inside the seat. Doing this will prevent the initial sticking, and you probably won't even need that little clip.

Incidently, those carb kits a very universal these days and one kit is designed to fit a multitude of different models. If just one of those models needed that little clip, then that is what was put into the kit, and the carburetor YOU are working on may not even need it.
