I own a 1981 6080 with 3700 original hours. It's got 14.1 to 1 compression and it will start hard and run rough for a time at temps below 45 degrees. I just start turning the engine over and reach in with my left hand and give it a very small shot of ether... less than a second on the switch... just touch it and back off. If it's running rough I give it another shot..and it smooths out. In very cold weather I usually plug it in for a half hour or so. I turned my injector pump to the low side a number of years ago while rebuilding it and it seems to start quite a bit better. And for certain, it takes much less ether to start it on a cold morning.During the summer months I can now start it without any ether... after turning the pump down. I owned an early 6060 and I always thought it started much better than the 6080...less fuel injected into a cold engine??? |
