Little 48 cub seems to need valve job. Spark great. No smoke. Runs like clock all summer. Poor starting in 15 ofr 20 degrees. What is fair price for valve job. Know book says 5 hours that is 600 in Mich. What do you think is worst and best price to expect. Probably strip it down much as possible. Dave Thanks again y'all. |

| You might get better answers in the Farmall forum since a cub is a Farmall LOL A cub is a flat head engine so doing a valve job on one is not like doing it on a valve in head engine. By the way the cub engine is also a pretty low compression engine at 6.5:1 |

| Yes first thing is to do a compression test on all four cylinders. Do it with the throttle at wide open and all the spark plugs removed. Once you do the compression test squirt some oil in one of the cylinders and take a compression check on that cylinder again to see if compression comes up or stays the same. do this on all the cylinders. If it comes up noticably your rings are wore. If compression stays the same you may need a valve job. By squirting oil in the cylinder this helps seal any worn areas around the piston thus decreasing blow-by past the piston. |
