rufus80 10-13-2012 14:45:48 174.253.7.171 Report to Moderator	Just got my 6080 a few weeks ago. Love the tractor except one thing, it starts hard. The first time you go to start it in the morning it just cranks and cranks, puffing out smoke. Finally after 30-60 seconds it starts and runs a little rough then clears up. Start it up any other time during the day it is great. Is this just the nature of the beast? Tractor has 5000 hours. [Reply]   [No Email]

Keep it plugged in when cold and a shot of ether. I like the tractor except for trying to get my leg up on the clutch pedal. That tractor was made for midgets. [Reply]  [No Email]

Anytime its below 50 degrees the cold start button is needed on initial starts in the morning. Lots of power and good fuel economy though. Joe [Reply]  [No Email]

It's got 14.1 to 1 compression and it will start hard and run rough for a time at temps below 45 degrees. I just start turning the engine over and reach in with my left hand and give it a very small shot of ether... less than a second on the switch... just touch it and back off. If it's running rough I give it another shot..and it smooths out. In very cold weather I usually plug it in for a half hour or so. I turned my injector pump to the low side a number of years ago while rebuilding it and it seems to start quite a bit better. And for certain, it takes much less ether to start it on a cold morning.During the summer months I can now start it without any ether... after turning the pump down. I owned an early 6060 and I always thought it started much better than the 6080...less fuel injected into a cold engine??? [Reply]  [No Email]
180doug 10-14-2012 01:00:51 108.219.188.151 Report to Moderator	Re: Allis 6080 Hard starting in reply to rufus80, 10-13-2012 14:45:48   Make sure you have a very good battery + starter as they have to spin fast , 1 , 1000 cca at least, 2 is better, i have a 6060 that way its very agrivating , and the injector pump and injectors must be good condition too, theres a block heater on my 6080 , it starts good till around 20 then i plug it in, it may need an overhaul as weak compression will causr this too, they are nice tractors, once they are running ! It had the starting fluid injector right on it from the factory. It needed a whiff (just as quickly as you could poke and release the button) on anything but a warm day. Never seemed to hurt it any. We ran it along side a 185, and it had more power, and burned less fuel. We got rid of it after about 4000 hours when we split a partnership, and were concerned with the rear end holding up to the power. They had enough complaints they upped the compression on later models. They had said they were reluctant to change the engine because it was so efficient. [Reply]  [No Email]

It has an ether button and a manifold heater button. I have used the ether but was wondering if this was common. I have a IH 1586 that will start at 0° with no ether. [Reply]  [No Email]

The air cooled motors are a bit difficult to start in cooler weather. Check your battery and see if you can get one to fit with around 1000 CCA and it should just need a touch of ether or the block heater plugged in for about a half hour to get it started.
