lift arms wont drop on my WD

This is the second time it has happened. The first time was a couple weeks ago. I drove it home from another field with the 3 point hay rake on it. About a 45 minute drive. Got home and they wouldnt drop. So I unscrewed the knob on top of the pump and it blead oil out and they went down. I used it several times around the house within the last couple weeks and had no problems. Now today I drove it to a field about an hour drive with the brush cutter on and they wouldnt go down. Both times as I was driving it that far hydraulic oil would mist out somewhere between the pump and control valve thing thats bolted on top of the pump. I checked the oil level both times and it has the proper amount. Im using universal 303 from orschelns. Any ideas on whats going on? Starting to be a PITA

I was plagued with simular troubles, the only way I was able to resolve it was to replace my hydraulic pump from my spare parts tractor. I guess if you don"t have a spare, you may be looking at rebuilding the pump and hold positioning valve.
 
On the front of the hyd pump is a thumbscrew, it should be turned all the way out against the tractor frame. Turn this screw all the way in, and lower the lever and see if the arms go down. Sometimes the control rack in the pump wont move to the unloaded (not pumping) positon and turning the screw in manually moves it to unload.
The rack has a spring washer that disintegrates over time and pieces of this will cause the rack or valves to freeze up. (time for repairs)
 
If it lifts and holds, I would say you have metal shaveings in the valve rack. Take it apart and clean it out. Before replaceing parts would check the pressure or if it lifts all you need it to lift would not replace anything.
 
Dont know if D-17 and WD-45 are the same at the Controls for the lift and the Traction Booster. But I know that when I first got my D-17 in Feb of 12 I used the lift a couple of times then it would not go down. Realized I had moved the traction booster leaver (Short one closer to the Steering Wheel) all the way up or down and that prevented the lift from going down. Once I moved it the other way the lift lowered. I tried to repeat it and I could, making me realize that this controls the lowering of the lift also. Maybe you could try this before you take apart the hydraulics. good luck
 

I had to rebuild the hold valve on the pump on my WD. I was having the same issue as you. Once the pump was off and the $15 rebuild kit came in from agco I had it done in under an hour. the hardest part is removing the pressed in valve seat. I called the dealer and they said to drill it, tap it and use threaded rod, nut and washer to pull it out. worked great!
