My daughterinlaws uncle was taken to town to live ,he had a collection of wds and wcs.Two of the wds have side panels on the motors. Is this rare,as I have never seen them before. Rich

If I remember it right, WC's and early WD's used the 201 motor, which has that panel you speak of. The 226 motor in the later WD45 does not. But the 2 motors are completely exchangeable in the various tractors they came in, so you see a lot of motor swaps that put different motors, into tractors that never had them, from the factory. I hope I got that right, but if I reversed it, it's just my CRS, kicking in!

I think he is talking about the corn picker side shields... They are not that rare, but most of them are all beat up. A picture would help.

Don't remember if both panels were the same, but the one on the left had a sliding door on it, so you could set the choke for starting. Early WC did not have choke control by op station. '39 was by footrest, later had rod by steering wheel. Rather doubt that oil dipstick could be accessed by sliding door on right side. IIRC our WC had slider only on left side.

You are right they were used on tractors with mounted pickers. They were also used on the WD-45. The guy that picked Dads corn had a WD-45 with a two row mounted picker.
