I"ve been working on the steering of my 1944 WC. I have removed the steering worm shaft and plan on replacing the bearings.
The bearing bracket looks different than what is shown in the parts manual. The parts manual shows the bracket having two straight sides and only two mounting holes. As you can see in the pictures, my bracket is round and has 12 holes.
Do I have the wrong bracket or did AC make a change to the bracket?
Also, if you notice, the bearing is off center from the mounting holes, so I assume you could rotate this bracket to adjust the worm gear backlash? The service manual doesn"t mention anything about adjusting the backlash.
