Allis B Starter Alignment

Is there any way to better align the starter on a 1945 Allis B. I removed my starter for an overhaul and noted that it appears the gears are slightly misaligned because the starter sags a little in the boss fit.

Thanks,

Wayne

It only has the tapper bolt to install it so no way to do any thing other then buy a new bolt if you can find one that is

clearance between the starter and case is only a few thousandths. Once the bolt is tight, there is no movement. THe bolt can be made from a 5/8 NC bolt and tapered on a grinder or lathe.

I never looked it up or tried it to find out- but I believe the hex head pointed bolt on a WD is the same as yours, which probably has a slot for a screwdriver? With the hex head then you can really get it tight.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I have the original bolt with the screw driver slot and the hex nut. I can get it tight but it appears to tilt a little at the rear of the starter. I guess it ois Ok since it worked fine since 1945.
