WD45 knock--in the hydrollic pump?

On one of my dads WD45's, ever since he bought it, he has felt there is some form of knock to it. At first he thought it was the motor, but after dropping the pan and changing the oil filter, he has ruled that out, as the rods are in correct, and it has good oil pressure.
Today he used it with the rotary mover, and he says he thinks the sound gets louder when the hydrollic is being used.

Our question, any one have this problem, and if it is the cause, what needs to be done to fix it?
 
You can hear the hyd. pump when it's working correctly, so certainly if something is wrong, it's really going to be easy to hear.
Pretty simple to check it out. When using the hyd. system, or when the noise occurs, push in the foot clutch. If the noise stops it's somewhere between the engine and trans.
My guess would be one of the cam follower/rollers on the hyd. pump.
 
My Dad bought a WD-45 back in the mid sixties from the original owner and it has always had a knock in the pump. The only time it has done it with me is when I lifted the three bottom plow it would start knocking. I know Dad went to the A.C. dealer to talk to the mechanics and they told him that is common for those pumps to knock. I don't know if they were just telling him that to get rid of him. It is a hard knock and the first time it did it with me I shut it down. Thought a rod was about to fly out of the motor. I've been restoring this tractor for several years now and when I took the pump apart I was expecting it to be in bad shape but everthing looked like new. The only thing that had any wear was the springs in the pistons. The sides of the coils were worn and that was it. Put it all back together with new gaskets and o-rings. It works but I haven't plowed with it yet. It may just have been the linkage and the adjustments weren't set right for draft control.
 
Sounds alot like what he is now thinking. He's using a 3 point kit, and he says when he lifts he thinks it gets worse. Like you, the first times he herd it he was worried the rods where knocking, but as I say, checked that, so now I need to have him try the clutch as suggested.
 
It is normal to hear some noise when the Lift lever is at the top of the quadrant. How much, is subjective.
