What are these two things. One is bolted to the right axle and has a bent swivel rod. The other is bolted to the right lift arm.

Looks like an aftermarket attempt at a lowering stop to me. Never seen one before to be sure though.

I was thinking something similar...the rod goes through the hole in the shaft, but must be a locking clamp, bushing, that is missing? Also thinking the rod would have to be longer.
 
Yes I think think you guy's are right. I can see how that would work. And yes I can see at the bottom of that rod that it is broken so it must have been longer.
I've always had problems trying to get the hydraulics to stay in a hold postion. I guess this contraption would prevent the ram from lowering to an undesirable position.
