What oil do you guys use in the WC transmission? The operator's manual says to use SAE 140 which is hard to find. |

O'Reilly's has a straight 140 gear lube and to boot Carquest still carries a straight 90.

I have used SAE 250 gear oil in all my older tractors that aren"t used in winter.Used to buy it from Duralene Oil Company.Similar in thickness to the old "Straight" 140 gear oil,and made the old model transmissions and final drives quieter.May be hard to find now as I haven"t ordered any for some time.

The 85W-140 is just fine to use and is easy to find. It is just like the muti weight engine oil thin when cold and thicker when hotter but ya 85W oil is not very thin but I think you understand

I used the travelers 85-140 that I found at Tractor Supply when I drained and replaced the oil in the differential and bull gears earlier this year.
