Good morning... Helping a guy out with a tractor, looks like an industrial D14 (I"m not an Allis guy, bear with me). It has some damage on the flywheel ring gear from a weak solenoid spring. The damage feels as though the metal of the ring gear is pushed over between the ring gear cogs in some places. Can a fella use a narrow file or hacksaw blade to "sharpen" up the ring gear teeth? The tractor is in great shape, it"d be a shame to see it get scrapped for this. Thanks for any tips! Doc Nelson Bellevue NE |

| | Shouldn't be a problem. If you are really good with a MIG you can even reach in through the starter opening and weld new teeth up on a ring gear, then file the profile back into them. I'm not that good with a MIG but I have an uncle who has a neighbor that did it with dad's TD-8. |
