Ballast resistor

My WD45 has a ballast resistor on it. I know they didn't come with them, why would someone put it on and do I need it?

Your WD-45 came from the factory with a 6 volt electrical system. If you have a ballast resistor your WD-45 was probably converted to 12 Volts.

It has been converted to 12 volt, but I converted my C to 12 volt, didn't install a resistor and have never had an issue. By the way, I am switching the points out for a pertronix ignitor.

12 volt coils may or may not have proper internal resistance. They sould be marked on the outside if a reistor is needed to add on the outside.
