I want to try chopping my hay to reduce waste to feed my sheep. My father use to chop it with a chopper hooked up to our old Allis Chalmer tractor with its PTO and A long belt. I can"t find one. Any suggestions on how to chop bales cheaply? Thanks |

| I use a New Holland 717 chopper that works well behind a lower HP tractor. It has a direct cut and windrow header. Real handy machine for stationary chopping of hay. |

| You could find an old field chopper with a windrow pickup fairly cheap and just throw the bales into that. If I was growing hay for sheep, I'd get a chopper like that, a self-unloading wagon and a blower and just blow it in the barn already chopped and skip the baling. If you have to buy your hay, well then that's a different story of course. |

| I use to use a hammermill. Not the fastest, but gets the job done. Depends to on how many you have to grind for. |
