Cat# 4007800, Serial 4331? or 33-01687

I guess this engine is a 95hp Turbo Diesel. It's transplanted into an old case Fork lift. My boss wants me to take a look at it and try to fix a hard starting issue. You have to crank it over for quite a while to get her to start. After it's running, it runs good and will start up afterwards easily.

I am trying to find out all the info I can on this engine. I found another post here that informed me of what the engine was. I don't really know a whole lot about diesels but I am trying to learn. We have the original engine that came out of this fork lift also, so I'll have parts to pick from. Looks almost like the same identical engine as the A/C.

Any info would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks in advance

Nate

It sounds like you have the engine identified. Some of them were hard starters. We were told AC knew they had a problem, but resisted addressing it because the engine was so powerful and efficient. They did up the compression I believe, and they started much nicer.
The simplest answer was a starting fluid injector. The shortest jab you could give the button was enough- necessary on any day but a warm one.

Thank you Bob. I did notice a can of ether in the engine bay. Of course, the whole ether starting system needs a lot of work to function properly.
Would you know of any literature/diagrams that would describe how I am to get this functioning? You said "necessary on any day but a warm one." The engine even starts hard on warm days. If that is the case with these engines then I guess there isn"t much I can do except try to fix the ether button.

I appreciate your response.

Does this engine/installation have an ether injector system now?
Doesn't amount to much- the main solenoid/can holder- tube running to a nozzle in the intake manifold- wiring and a push button switch to energize it.
