D-17 Running Awkward!

Just bought a 1960 D-17 tractor that seemed to run okay when I bought it, but now two weeks later seems to run weird. When I start the tractor it pop's or backfires I guess you would say. Doesn't stay running very long then dies. I am wondering if these old tractors need a good deal of gas in the tank to make them run correctly? The gas tank does not have a whole lot of gas in there now, wondering if that would be the deal?

Since it is near empty, drain tank the rest of the way to clean it out. Replace the fuel valve so it has new screen. Pull drain plug out of the bottom of the carb and let some clean gas run through. Then check your points to make sure they are in good condition and set proper. Does not take much for these tractors to run good. very reliable.

Check the spark plugs and wires, and how it's wired. 1-2-4-3 is AC firing order. Sometimes international mechanics get things mixed up!

Just may be a little "Cold-Blooded" and need judicious use of the Choke while warming up..
Perhaps the load needle is set a little Lean..
