WD45 question?

I've never had an AC before and have lots of IH stuff. I picked up a WD45 at an auction this weekend and was looking up the serial number to see that it's really early. The serial number is 146972. Looks like it's within 365 of the first one made. I didn't intend to keep it, but is an early one more desirable than a later one?

It's straight, runs and has already been converted to 12v. The only thing I don't like is that it has zero hydraulics on it.

A WD45 should in fact have hyds one it. Are you 100% sure it is a WD45 not a WC which are easy to mistake for a WD45. Side by side a WC/WD/WD45 look the same if you do not know the tractors well but all 3 are in fact different models. A few clues to tell what you have. #1 if the engine has a bolt on side plate on the right side it is either a WD or WC engine. If the transmission is bolted to the rear end then it is a WC if the transmission is bolted to the back of the engine then it is a WD/WD45. The only one of the 3 that did not have hyds from the factory was the WC

You're right it is a WC! The serial number even has a WC stamped in front. Wonder why it has a WD 45 logo on the tin. I guess that would make it a 1945 WC. Is it even desirable?

Sorry I missed the hydraulic part. As always I read to fast and only read the firts paragraph of your post.
Old doesn"t miss nothin. LOL

year dont have much to do with the price. WC is normally a little cheaper due to being less HP and no hydraulics. Quite often when a WC or WD was rebuilt or painted, the guy bought "new" decals for it which were WD45. Llik old siad, you got to look close to see what you got. WC worth quite a bit less, but they are a good tractor for many jobs that dont need hydraulics.

People would put the wrong decals on so as to get a person the buy one thinking it was a bigger/better model. As for desire not one way or the other. But yep a WD45 is worth more then a WC

Sure I miss things if the person writes way to much LOL. Ya I do my best to be as correct as I can be with in my limited knowledge that is LOL

A 45 WC might have the steel rearend they used in WW2. That adds another $100-200 or so to the price. I think they ended the SN with an S. I'd love to have a wartime WC, just can't swing it right now.

Oops, tuther way around.
WC had the trans right next to clutch, hand brakes as original equip.
WD & WD45 had trans just in front of diff, foot brakes original.

Thanks everyone. I messed with it a lot more today, took the wheel weights off and went through a few things. I figured out where the brakes were too. When I was pulling it up on the trailer in the dark last night I was a little excited and couldn't find them. The paint looks good under the dirt and just needs some cleaning to shine up. That WD 45 sticker bugs me though. I listed it on a CL to see if there's any interest and I made sure to point out it was a WC. No hurry to get rid of it and I'll hook a disk up to it this spring if I still have it. I'd like to have a little sickle bar if I can find one.
