yesterday we started out 180 and it did not have any power/hydrolic . It was not really that cold. After running a while ant turning the steering wheel it finally worked. It has newer filter and oil. We will see if it works today...Thanks for any input

It's been 25 years since I worked with those tractors. Back then I wouldn't say it was common, but could happen. Cold, been setting a while, wear in the pump, could all be contributing factors. If I remember right- there is a rectangular casting bolted up across the bottom of the torque housing with an oil line out of each end. I think one was pump supply, the other a return. I believe there is a fine screen across the top of that housing that could be cruddy.
It also seems like there was one of those tractors we kept the hyd. oil level just a little higher than normal because of issues like yours, and maybe a little cavitation on a cold start.

The block on the back is the priority flow divider. Sometimes thy stick and cause the described problem.
Bob decribed the other causes pretty well.

Your pump lost prime. I use the steering wheel trick to reprime my 180 a couple of times I had to drain it remove the rear PTO shaft. First thing to check is the suction line from the pump to the sump. Part of it is rubber hose that can get old and crack with pin hole air leaks letting the fluid drain back. Might try replacing the rubber hose first. Mike

Thanks to both of you. I will be going out and checking the ideas. So deeply appreciated for this site with all the insite...
