I-40 backhoe starter

My I-40 backhoe starter has started giving my trouble. THe starter just clicks when I try to start. A few taps with a hammer and it will crank just slowly. I was going to remove the starter and have it tested just not sure how. There is a large bolt with a lock nut on the engine block just past the starter. The bolt runs perpendicular to the starter. Is this how it is removed? I plan to order the service manual tomoorow but would like to get it going soon. Any help would be appreciated. Also where are parts available and does this tractor match up to any other tractor for parts?

this is a 5/8 pointed bolt that wedges into a drilled hole and centers the starter. just knock the lock nut loose and screw out the bolt. the starter just slides in the hole. If it is tight, it might be rusted and need to tap on the sides with a hammer or pry with a screw driver, etc to pull it out.
