How do I engage pulley on WD

Back out the screw above the pulley, push in the pulley a few inches until you can screw it (the screw on top) all the way in. It's now engaged. Reverse procedure to disengage.

From operator's manual. "Push clutch pedal down and engage pedal lock. Loosen belt pulley retaining screw and push pulley assembly screw into tractor. The dealer will stamp an arrow on tractor frame and on pulley tube. These arrows must be aligned to obtain proper gear mesh. Tighten lock screw and jam nut. Release clutch pedal. The clutch pedal lock may engaged when pulley is stopped, however the engine should be stopped if any work is done on the driven machine." Even though the manual doesn't say so our dealer always insisted that the tractor should be shut off when doing this.

Better print out some of these replys for the next time you want to engage the Belt Pulley. Good advise is given here.JC

You need to understand that when you withdraw the pulley assembly from the tractor, you will see a row of holes around the tube....these are not drilled in a straight line- they are on a taper. You need to rotate the pulley tube so that when you push it in, and tighten down the tapered bolt, the pulley will rotate about 1/8 inch back and forth. That is the lash on the pulley. When you find that location, make a mark with a chisel on the top of the pulley tube and on the top of the side channel of the tractor, so you can find the correct hole later on. Setting it too tight or too loose will cause damage to the gears. For further info, you need the operator manual for the tractor.
