How many series of the 190xt were there? Was there a Series IV? What were the improvements from series to series? Is there a good article that I can access to get more information. Thanks. Paul in Wisconsin.

Just 3 they changed to a 200 can't remember what year. Dad bought a new 200 in the spring of 1974 the year i got out of school.

Only one had the official series designation and the was the series III. There was no series I or II but people refer to them as such marking certain major updates after the series III came out. It didn't make sense to skip series II but that's what AC did. D17 went that way too.

190xts had a long run , first ones had the sloped big fenders ,small rear ends, small axles, 3 bar grilles, later around the end of 67, they went to Series 2, although no decals these had square fenders, 2 lights in the fenders ,biger rear ends, bigger axles, - some trans improvments but not enough, they still jumped out of gear; 12-68 came the SERIES 3 with the decal, 4 pinion rear end, big axles, I think the series 2 the grille didnt have no bars; series 3 had the oil cooler on the motor ; alot of series 2 tractors got the series 3 updates; although they were popular Allis could have done alot better job of engieering these ; the easy horsepower- then the rear end breaking - gear jumping, I know of one guy killed cause of a simple design flaw- jumped out of gear- a new tractor!!! They are great field tractors but you put a loader on one and the problems really start!!!

Trans improvements? so they don't jump out of gear?....transmissions jump out of gear because of abuse by the driver...ie- grinding gears rather than waiting for the tractor to stop moving before shifting gears. Early ones had the lighter rear ends- like the D19, and had more hp put to them- they did not stand up. Factory had some warranty updates, not all tractors got them. Simply putting too many hp through a lighter rear end. Series III had all of the updates.

XT came out in early 65. Early 66 the heavier rear end went in, still the full fenders and bar grill. Updates were given to 65 190XT diesels models. Although some apparently were missed I never ran into one. I have only seen gasser 190 and 190xt with small rear end and straight 190 diesel with small rear end no XT diesels with small rear end. Series III has 4 pinion and maybe even heavier final drives (not sure). 200 had even heavier final drives and 7000 even heavier. 7000( from 1975-1979) was the last of the original 190 line that actually started with the D19 in 1961.

In 1965 I bought my 190 Gas AC to pull a 4/14" Slat bottom mounted Plow. My neighbor bought a 190 XT Diesel to pull a 5/14" solid Bottom Semi Mount Plow.Long story short, I used mine that spring with no problems but he spent a lot of down time with trans and rear end problems. AC tried to tell him he was useing too big a Plow.He had way to much Horsepower for the D19 trans and rear end they put in the early 190 XT.He finally got some help from AC but not before he paid my Dad some rent money to use Dad's D21 to finish plowing.
