Tales of Two Tractors | When I was a boy, my grandfather farmed near Evans City, Pa. I spent my summers there. In the barn was an old Fordson tractor, with steel wheels, heavy cast iron transmission, and an engine that resembled one in my Model T Ford, altho much heavier. It hadn't been run or moved for many years, so G-father let us kids sit on it and pretend we were plowing with it. After Grandfather quit farming, the farm was sold. I guess the tractor was sold for junk, as that was back in the 30's, maybe dropped on Germany or Japan! When I bought my place, A man down the road had a home-made tractor, made out of a model A Ford, with a'T' worm-drive rear end. I made a snow plow for it and used it to plow driveways near my home. Now i'm into fixing lawn mowers and tractors (lawn). Keeps an old re-tiree busy and out of the house! Jim Hammitt, PA, entered 2000-10-13 My Email Address: Not Displayed |
