It Had to Happen

Well, it had to happen.... My love for machines and antiques would evolve from cars, boats and planes to tractors. Just one year ago I started searching for an antique tractor to restore. I knew nothing about tractors at all but wanted something old and small. After turning to the internet, I discovered that a Cub was just the tractor. I had already been asking family and friends for any leads and remember my friend Chris mentioning his brother Tommy still owning his dads' International Cub. It turns out his brother had pulled out the Cub from the shed where it had been parked for twenty-five years and wanted to sell her three days prior to this! I purchased this tractor for 500 and pulled it home with the trailer she rested on. Over the next 10 months I restored the Cub and trailer. When I bought the Cub, I noticed an old Ferguson in the corner of the barn and had inquired about purchasing this tractor also. Tommy wanted to revive the Ferguson to use on his 500 acre tract. After three offers and a turn down for 750 the deal was stalled. A few weeks later I was helping another friend sell his 5103 John Deere and put tommy on this great purchase deal with the Ferguson going to me as part of the bargain. Now, one year later, I am the proud owner of two gorgeous fully restored tractors.... a 1956 International Cub Lo-boy and a 1949 Ferguson TE-20. Two of the finest tractors ever built! Thank you Yesterdays Tractors for your support.

In the last entry to this series we gave a brief overview of hydraulic system theory, its basic components and how it works. Now lets take a look at some general maintenance tips that will keep our system operating to its fullest potential. The two biggest enemies to a hydraulic system are dirt and water.
