The 148 in your 430 should be interchangeable with a 188 gas or diesel. Both 188s will be about an 1.5 inches longer than the 148, but they will bolt up to the same bellhousings. The extra length in the engines creates several problems including steering rods, hood tin, throttle linkages, etc.
The early 148 engines (300 round nose and x00B) are different in several way, and will not bolt up without some "engineering". - Joe
