This may or may not be your problem, I was driving ours, baling last summer, got done and parked it. Started it the next morning and took off. It made a few noises that it shouldn't have and came to a stop. Only had second on the auto lever in the four gears, don't think I had any reverse and it didn't die using the clutch. Mechanic thought the clutch packs were out. Took it to a different local mechanic and he split the tractor. The only thing he found wrong, there is a valve cover plate on the right outside of the transmission case, right under where your right foot sets, I never paid any attention to how it comes off, but there are two, about five eights diameter tubes, maybe four inches long that fit in some bores, somehow they had slipped out of the bores and were letting the oil drain instead of going where it is supposed to. Somebody had worked on it a year or so ago and when they put it back together they evidentally didn't get them in right. I am not a Case mechanic so that is all I know, I just drive them under duress.

Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects.
