Andrew,
Unless the export tractors were equipped differently the 830 should have an inline German Bosch pump, This is not at all similar to the American Bosch used on the 500 tractors which had a rotary head vs the inline configuration of the German Bosch.
There is an oring which seals the transfer pump pushrod which can fail and allow a bad transfer of fuel to the crankcase, had that once on a 2290 with the German Bosch, also known as a Robert Bosch, I believe. I would check for any restrictions to flow clear to the transfer pump, the transfer pump also contains check valves, both inlet and outlet and I have seen them badly plugged although the fuel to the transfer pump should have been through the 1st stage filter. The valves are directional and must be installed properly or fuel cannot flow.
The filter relief should be checked to assure it is closing till the transfer pump builds enough pressure to open it.
