I've been thinking about getting some pullets but my wife keeps dispelling the idea. Back in my younger years I learned the value of a dollar with chickens. When I was 6 or 7 grandpa bought me a half dozen pullets and taught me how to get a hen to sit a nest, I think we had around 60 chickens in the end when I was about 12. I sold eggs to the old neighbor ladies and paid for feed for the hens. The extra money went into a billfold in grandpas end table in the living room. He never let me get into that money, he would buy little treats and things I wanted within reason but told me to save my money. He would let me carry by billfold when we went to town. Grandpa passed away the spring I turned 12, we had been planning to buy a shotgun with the money he had helped me save from egg sales. The day of his funeral dad took me to the sporting goods store and I picked out the new shotgun that grandpa and I had dreamed about. He's been gone along time now but I haven't forgotten that lesson.
