Chuck: My dad"s 400 had some bearings in the transmission fail, we had to split the tractor and build up a couple of shafts along with the bearings. That was 30 years ago, and I still use the tractor. I can"t remember what the symptoms were. You know what we are going to tell you don"t you. See if there is any metal in the oil when you drain it. Then take the covers off the trans and rear end and look for excessive play. What weight oil does the trans/rear end have in it? If it has 90 weight, 140 might help. Did you grease the throwout bearing? It usually gets missed.
