Chuck: Look at the holes on the sides of transmission and work down from there. I built a u shaped framework and put castors on the bottom of the "U" This will let you roll the trans/diff back from the motor frt end assembly. Now the front end I built two small "A" frames and welded a tube steel between and bolted in to the holes on the underneath of the nose . Now you must find a way the support the rear end of the engine. I used a steel frame work with brackets to bolt up thru the pan connecting holes. That was a mistake as you must put new gaskets at the rear of the pan after having it split. Mine leakeked badly and I had to remove pan and put new gaskets on.Sorry for the long post but I could not find any pics of splitting stand that would work with the 400,so, fabed my own.tom

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
