Doug, the early tractors drove the PTO off the same shaft that drove the powershift. When it was shifted or clutched, the surge caused a whipping action in the pto which would shear pins. Later tractors had a seperate flywheel driven shaft for the PTO, that fixed the problem. All white tractors had the cure and some of the very latest sunset ones.
