The plate with the model and serial number was usually on the side of the sheet metal which forms the dash. Another indicator is the three point hitch, swinging arms with limiting chains and normal ball in the end are the later model. The eagle hitch, looks like three point, but the arms do not swing and the hitch is sort of like an upturned claw, comes up under the hitch pins on the implement. What front axle does it have? Some likely models are 411B, 511B, 430, 530 or 630. The gas engine on those would be a 148, 159 or 164 cu/in displacement. Larger 4 cylinder on the 700-800 series.

Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
