I'm guessing that when you say posts you mean nipples on the distutor cap, right?? Well if so then heres how you do it. Get #1 piston up to top dead center, pull the cap off and look at where the rotor sits as far as the cap nipples. Hook that nipple up to #1 cylinder/plug, the rotor turns counter clock wise so the next one goes to #3 and then next to #4 and the last one to #2. Now if you get them 180 out and get a popping from the carb/exhaust then all you do is switch #1 and #4 and #3 and #2. and you will have it right. You will then need to after starting the engine fine tune the timing to get the best running engine you can. I just did that last week on a WD.
