I just completed a 1939 B. It has no generator or electric start or any electricals except for the magneto, points and plugs and wires. It doesn't even have a place to mount a starter in the housing.In a way it is nice because there is no battery oer major electricals to maintain. You do have to hand crank it but I have found that to be real easy if you have the ignition and fuel properly adjusted. It normally cranks on the first or second jerk. The only real pain is if you stall or cut it off since you have to climb down from the seat to restart. I am real happy with it. Also the 39 has hand brakes instead of foot brakes. I first thought this might be a real problem but once you get used to the idea of using your hands instead of feet it is ok. I still would rather have foot brakes but it would not be original. Its a little unnerving to take your hand off the steering wheel to brake but only if you are on a hill. I think it is neat to own a vintage model that does not have all the luxuries of newer tractors as it is a great conversation piece. If you were buying the tractor for making a living with farming then I would probably not have bought this old a model, but I was interested in the show aspects and nostalgia of the 39' model B.
