the throw out bearing is drip lubed from a wick inside the crankshaft. Over the years the oil will get the clutch and plate wet/ sticky and cause the problem you have. Pull the starter motor out... Push the clutch pedal down and hold with a 2 x 4 wedge... Get a weed sprayer with a cup of laundry liquid soap and water and soak it really good thru the starter hole... when you think you did a good job, do it again... then spray up from the bottom thru the oval hole in the torque tubel.. Let everything set for 10 minutes, then stick the garden hose in the hole and blast away... put the starter back on and fire it up and drive around a littlt to test and let things dry up. Do it again in 5 years.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
