Idle adjustment screw only does any thing a an idle. It also works back wards of the main jet which your carb is not likely to have either. You screw it in to make it richer and out to lean it out but not likely to be your problem. As for the mag yep bad bushings and cause the problem you have due to the points not opening as they should.
