I know the WD may be a bit different from the WC, but our WC had the exact same problem as you describe. We found the lower bearing to be very worn out in fact I've never seen a tapered roller bearing with that amount of flats on it. The wear caused there to be a lot of verticle play and excellerated the pounding it took. We also replaced the wheel bearings and I tightened up the worm gear on its shaft due to that pin being worn. This took care of the wobble.
